چکیده

We report the angular diameters of two Mira variables (U Ari and Z Sco), three semi-regular and irregular variables (SW Vir, η Gem and µ Gem) and a supergiant semi-regular variable (TV Gem) by lunar occultation observations in the near-infrared broad K-band (2.2 µm). Lunar occultations of η Gem and µ Gem were also observed for the first time simultaneously in both K and L ′ bands yielding angular diameters at 2.2 and 3.8 µm. Effective temperatures and linear radii are also derived for all the observed sources and compared with earlier measurements. The mode of pulsation of both Mira and SR sources in our sample is discussed.

Infrared and visual lunar occultations measurements of stellar diameters and new binary stars detections at the Calar Alto 1.5 m telescope

We present a program of routine lunar occultations, at optical and near-IR wavelengths, recently started at the 1.5 m Spanish telescope at the Calar Alto Observatory. Both a CCD and an infrared array detector are used. The program is aimed mainly at the detection and investigation of binary systems, although results in other areas of stellar research are also anticipated. Occultations are repor...

Infrared high angular resolution measurements of stellar sources III. Angular diameters and effective temperatures of eleven late-type giants

Near-infrared lunar occultation observations of eleven late-type giants in the spectral range K0 to M6 (including one carbon star) are reported here. These stars are resolved fromour observations carried out at 2.2μm, resulting in accurate determinations of their angular sizes, with values in the range 1.4 to 7.1 milliseconds of arc (mas) and a typical accuracy of 0.12 mas. Nine out of eleven s...

Infrared high angular resolution measurements of stellar sources IV. Angular diameters and effective temperatures of fifteen late-type stars

We have measured the angular diameter of fifteen late-type stars in the near-infrared using the technique of lunar occultations. Included are ten giant stars in the spectral range K0–M10, three M supergiants and two carbon stars. The resulting uniform-disk angular diameters are in the range 2.5 to 10.0 milliseconds of arc (mas), and the average formal error is 0.17 mas. In one case where the sa...

Radii and Effective Temperatures for K and M Giants and Supergiants. Ii

We present new interferometric observations for 74 luminous red stars, made in the near-infrared. We show that our 2.2 km uniform-disk diameters agree with other near-infrared diameter determinations (lunar occultations and interferometers) for 22 stars measured in common with ours. From our new data, we derive e†ective temperatures that are compared with our previous work and with comparable o...

Lunar Occultations of Stars with Exoplanet Candidates

We investigate the potential of lunar occultations for the detection of very faint companions, and in particular for the possibility of detecting extrasolar planets. We review the basic concepts of the method, and discuss the quantities which are relevant for this particular application. The near-infrared range, and in particular the K and L bands (2.2 and 3.6m), ooer the best dynamic range. We...
